Recovery Time Needed After Liposuction

After finally deciding to take the plunge into the world of liposuction, be prepared to put off the showcasing of your fabulous new body for a while.

Recovery time is the last important step on the journey to the new you. This period allows the body time to rest and heal after the major ordeal it has been through.

The estimated length of recuperation for the body differs from patient to patient but between two and four months is the average. This time frame can be either lengthened or shortened if certain factors come into play.

Swelling is a common factor after any surgery. This is due to the fluids that help to keep you hydrated during the operation as well as the bleeding and bruising caused by the surgery itself.

The amount of swelling after a liposuction operation depends on whether stitches and tumescent fluid were used. Stitches do not allow the natural drainage of the interstitial fluid so swelling will last for about two to three months.

If your doctor decides not to use stitches the body will drain much faster. The use of tumescent fluid is another major determinant in the length of swelling. This fluid makes fat firmer and easier to be suctioned out which causes less bleeding and bruising to the body. .

A speedier recovery can be attained if you do a few simple things.

Wearing a compression garment helps to encourage the draining of the fluid and provides the support needed if the operation was done over any of the core muscles

Taking a shower instead of a bath will make sure that the incisions don’t get too soggy and complications won’t arise. Some light activity will reduce the pain of the operation, prevent the threat of deadly blood clots, and help encourage the draining of the fluids.

As you prepare for your life changing operation, remember to research all your available options and then discuss them with your doctor to determine what the best choice is for you. And don’t forget to pick out the perfect outfit to make your friends jealous.
